C'est un diminutif du nom de personne breton Eon, formé avec le suffixe -o. On le rencontre surtout dans les Côtes-d'Armor. Autres diminutifs : Eonet, Eonnet, Eonin (56). Quant au nom Eon (56, 44, 35), son étymologie est incertaine : faut-il le rapprocher d'une racine bretonne ayant le sens de juste, droit ? faut-il y voir une variante de Yon (voir ce nom) ? Difficile de se prononcer.
